HOW TO GET THERE AND AROUND?

[THUIS]HAVEN is located in the quiet neighborhood Grote Berg, centrally located on Curaçao and just a ten-minute drive away from Hato airport. We highly recommend to rent a car. All beautiful beaches and nicest restaurants and bars are quite far apart, and in order to really enjoy Curacao you’d need a car.

THE AREA AND ITS BEACHES

[THUIS]HAVEN is ideally situated to be the safe haven from which you explore the beauty of the western part of the island. A mere 15 minutes’ drive away is Cas Abao Beach, listed as one of the top 21 most beautiful beaches of the world by National Geographic. Our favourite beaches include Porto Marie and Playa Daaibooi. At San Juan beach (~20 minutes’ drive to the west) you will find some gorgeous small beaches where nudism is quite common. The Manzanilla beach at San Juan is an unofficial gay beach.

Close by in Willemstad are plenty of shops, wonderful restaurants, museums and bars. There’s a few small supermarkets a few minutes away, while large supermarkets are a 10 minute drive away.

DIVING & SNORKELING

GAY FRIENDLY CURACAO & BARS

Gay travelers looking for the perfect gay-friendly destination will find a lot to love about Curacao. Curacao is a very welcoming and diverse place, full of folks who speak several different languages, including English, Spanish, and Dutch (it is a Dutch island). Curacao is easily the most gay friendly of any Caribbean island, and it is happily apparent the moment you set foot on the island.

There are many ‘gay friendly’ clubs and bars. Since September 2022 Curacao has a real gay bar again. Gaze bar/lounge is in the center of Punda and about 15 minute drive. The highlight of the year is the Curaçao Pride. This event takes place every year around the end of September and beginning of October. During the 5 days that the Pride lasts there are plenty of parties and activities you can enjoy. Christmas time is yet another period where there is almost always lots of parties and activities.

On Thursday you should spend your evening in Punda! Thurday is Punda vibes: Enjoy the local market, happy hours and live music at different bars & restaurants, dinner & live music at Plasa Bieu, activities at Marshe Nobo, Punda Vibes Walking Tour and so much more.

RESTAURANTS

Our two off-site apartments are actually next to a very nice restaurant. Restaurant ‘De Buurvrouw’ has a casual atmosphere, the food, especially the pizza, is fantastic and the service is simply the best.

Restaurant Bali is within walking distance of [THUIS]HAVEN. We love the Asia inspired food, the laid back atmosphere and attentive service at this restaurant nearby. Recently, they’ve been selling ice cream, too. Always a good excuse for a short stroll in the neighborhood

If you like fish you can’t miss this: restaurant De Visserij. A hotspot where both locals and tourists come for the tastiest and freshest fish on the island. The restaurant buys the fish from the local fishermen with which they support the profession of the fisherman.
